Last step is to only choose screensavers that display an image, and then I rotate those every two minutes or so. Now I run xscreensaver-demo and configure my images directory to point to the directory above.

sudo apt-get remove gnome-screensaver sudo apt-get install xscreensaver xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensaver-gl-extra. Next I installed xscreensaver and uninstalled gnome-screensaver. Sudo apt-get install xscreensaver xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensaver-gl-extra I am using the 'Cut圜apt' program in cron to create a snapshot of the website and write to a file in a directory every minute.

Most options are configured on a user-by-user basis by running xscreensaver-settings.xscreensaver-settings writes the chosen configuration to /.xscreensaver, discarding any manual modifications to the file. Do this as your normal user account, not as root. export DISPLAY=:0 & cutycapt -url= -out=/home/jaymz/Cut圜apt/mon_snap.png -min-width=960 -min-height=540 > /tmp/cutycapt.sh.output For an Arch Linux branded experience, install the xscreensaver-arch-logo AUR package. Select ' Startup Applications ' from the menu (or manually launch ' gnome-session- properties ') and add ' xscreensaver '. I am using the "Cut圜apt" program in cron to create a snapshot of the website and write to a file in a directory every minute. This suggests the problem is "Executable path is not absolute", so I opened the file /usr/lib/systemd/user/xscreensaver.Thanks to all the comments here, I was able to find a solution that is working for me. An icon will appear referring to Startup Applications.

I guess, this is good and excludes the possibility that screensaver just doesn't get automatically started on start-up. XScreenSaver is a free and open-source collection of 240+ screensavers for Unix, macOS, iOS and Android operating systems. If after a restart I type xscreensaver -nosplash I get: xscreensaver: 18:39:29: already running on display :0 (window 0x1a000de) The phosphor screensaver, part of the xscreensaver-data package, is a screensaver that emulates an old. I was afraid to delete the sktop file, so I out commented everything in it. On the Background page, type the command 'xscreensaver-nosplash' into the Background Program field. On the General page set the Local Greeter to Standard Greeter. Curiously, when I type locate sktop I get: /etc/xdg/autostart/sktop You can run xscreensaver from your gdm(1) session, so that the screensaver will run even when nobody is logged in on the console. But If I wait for the screen to time out, it just goes blank black like the gnome-screensaver does, despite that I have gnome-screensaver installed. If I lock the screen with Cntrl+Alt+L then the xscreensaver starts.

First kill the xscreensaver process if it is already running. Then there is a script you have to run to manually add the rss-glx screensavers into the /.xscreensaver file. I don't understand Linux and sys-admin stuff, but I have installed recently xscreensaver Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS as described here and I have followed all the steps. sudo apt-get install xscreensaver xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensaver-gl-extra rss-glx xscreensaver-screensaver-webcollage.
